Palin should at least learn how to pronounce "nuclear" and speak beyond Alaska and "the greed and corruption of Wall Street." Other buzz words included: you guys, we're mavericks, I'm an outsider, doggone it, and straight up.
Palin also mentioned she is "governor of a huge state" before realizing it and adding in "energy state." Her experience is so incredibly narrow that she surely does see Alaska, in her mind, as a huge state. Right next to Russia...
She didn't answer very many questions. She went on tangents to energy knowledge or got caught up into her catch phrases. Or dropped a generalization or a cliche, such as when she said "You walk the walk, you don't just talk the talk." or "Say it ain't so, Joe." This, at a VP Debate. It's such a joke, and shouldn't even be possible. It is a disservice to Joe Biden that he had to take her seriously and engage with her.
In one of her random tangents, she mentioned women's rights. I would love to have heard her talk about this. Why weren't they asked a question about this? Women who want to vote for her because she is a woman need to hear more about her belief in abstinence-only education and pro-life beliefs, to the extreme that should her own daughter be assaulted, she would still want the child carried to term. She also quoted some sentiment on "drill, baby, drill". And blew off global warming to talk about cyclical changes in weather.
She has already been called out time and again for not answering questions. How can we possibly trust someone who cannot follow the rules of a formal debate, who continues to be evasive, who sees herself as above the rules? How are we to take someone seriously who when asked again about a previous statement regarding not knowing what a VP does, quipped "I've been at this for, what, three weeks now?"
And yes, sadly, she winked at the audience. Many times.
This left Biden having to correct her mistakes, give a bit of a history lesson to clarify what she muddled, and mention McCain's views in order to comment on them when she failed to stay on topic. And he did this very well, with clarity and authority.
Seriously, people. Sarah Palin needs to go back to Alaska. Her name on that ticket puts her dangerously close to becoming President should anything happen. It is scary that just because she can make herself pretty and relatable, people want to vote for her. I don't want to just vote for someone "like me." I can relate really well to my best friends, so by these standards they clearly are presidential material in my eyes. But just as Bush tried to play up how he's imperfect and so much like all of us American people, so too does Palin try to play the "one of us" card.
Regardless of anyone's views on which party to vote for (as Palin said of something else so eloquently as usual, "that's a whole different story!"), surely it should be agreed that Joe Biden won this debate. Hands down.
